New Hires & Transfers

Effective Date of Coverage for New Hires and Transfers

For new hires, the start date of your OGB coverage depends on your first day of employment:

  • If employment begins on the first day of the month:
Coverage begins on the first day of the following month.
  • If employment begins on the second day of the month or later:
Coverage begins on the first day of the next month after completing 30 days of employment.

Employees who transfer to a new position or agency must complete a transfer form within 30 days to ensure uninterrupted coverage. Visit your agency's Human Resources for further instructions.
